Over 4 million people have an ITIN, also known as an individual taxpayer identification number. ITINs are used instead of social security numbers. That said, ITINs function similarly to SSNs. Individuals with ITINs can build credit, open home loans, and start building financial freedom.
As a community-driven organization, NWCU is focused on helping our community members achieve financial stability, and ITINs can be a big part of that. Here's what you need to know about ITINs and how to use them at NWCU.
How to Apply for an ITIN
To receive an ITIN, you have to apply for one with the Internal Revenue Service. You can find more information about that on the IRS Website.
What can I use an ITIN for?
ITINs are used for almost anything an SSN is used for. That includes but isn't limited to the following.
- Credit Building
- Personal Loans
- Home Loans
- Business Loans
- Car Loans
However, not all financial institutions accept ITINs. Thankfully, we at NWCU accept ITINs. Start your credit journey by scheduling an appointment with a Member Service Specialist today.
Besides an ITIN, What do I need to apply for a loan?
Approval for an ITIN loan depends on your credit history, income, and other factors. Increase approval odds by having proof of income, tax returns, and down payments.
*All loans subject to credit approval. Please note that ITIN home loans may require a larger downpayment than traditional SSN home loans. Rates, terms and conditions are subject to change and may vary based on creditworthiness, qualifications and collateral conditions. Mortgaged property must be located in Washington or Oregon state.
